On Labor Laws: Is T-Mobile Engaging In Double Standards?
A recent report conducted by the American Rights At Work education organization exposed T-Mobile and its parent company Geutsche Telekom's (DT) active campaign to discourage U.S. workers from forming a union.
The report, "Lowering the Bar or Setting the Standard? Deutsche Telekom's U.S. Labor Practices," presents overwhelming evidence that DT is guilty of operating by a double standard: The company respects workers' rights in Germany, where it cooperates closely with unions but mistreats workers in the United States by interfering with their right to organize.
Foreign companies should comply with both U.S. labor laws and labor laws in their home country alike. American employees deserve the same treatment and respect their employees receive back home. Because labor laws in their home country are more stringent is no excuse to skirt the requirements of employees' rights here
T-Mobile has also been the subject of an FLSA collective action for failing to pay its employees time-and-one-half for "off-the-clock" hours worked.
