When he graduated from law school in 1983, Spencer received
a two-year appointment as law clerk to the Honorable
Franklin T. Dupree, Jr. who was then the chief judge
of the federal court for the eastern district of North
Carolina.
After his clerkship, Spencer joined Martin
& Jones and began his private practice by handling
personal injury and product liability claims. He first
represented a client with an asbestos disease in 1989,
and within a few years, hundreds of injured workers
had retained him to bring asbestos
lawsuits against
some of the largest companies in America. Clients from
more than 20 states have hired Spencer and Martin &
Jones to represent them over the past decade.
Spencer is licensed to practice in North Carolina,
South Carolina, and Texas. He is also admitted to practice
in all of the firm's asbestos cases presently pending
in Georgia. Spencer and his staff file dozens of claims
on behalf of every client they represent. He has tried
asbestos cases in several states, sometimes having to
try groups of cases together in order to obtain the
fairest compensation for his clients.
Spencer is active in a number of professional associations.
He is on the Executive Committee of the North Carolina
Academy of Trial Lawyers, serves as State Delegate to
the American Association for Justice, and is
invited to speak at seminars on a regular basis.
Spencer continues to represent hundreds of asbestos victims, while also representing clients in selected personal injury claims and other products
liability lawsuits. His product liability group
includes 4 attorneys, and 14 staff members. They are
all active participants in making sure that every client
receives the best representation possible.
