Boating and Child Safety

By Martin & Jones on May 9, 2012

As the summer approaches, our thoughts often turn to boating. Remember as captain of your vessel, you are responsible for your passengers. Many times we forget about the children. Remember that a child on a boat is still a child. Very few boats are equipped with seatbelts.

If you are boating with children, make sure that you have an adult present for each child under the age of 10. The adult passenger can be responsible for each child. The age of 10 is no magic number but is a number where children are at least more than likely to understand some safety.

If you have questions about boating with children go to your local U.S. Coast Guard website. www.uscgboating.org
