Tractor-Trailer Driver Charged With Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle
Every year, hundreds of people from North Carolina are injured or killed in tractor trailer accidents. Another tragedy just occurred. On Monday May 18, 2015, a tractor trailer driver was charged after a mother and her daughter were killed in a morning crash near Oxford, North Carolina. The tractor-trailer was operated by Michael L. Green and was heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 158, also known as Oxford Loop Road, shortly after 10:30 a.m. Mr. Green’s tractor trailer ran a red light at N.C. Highway 96 and collided with a southbound vehicle being driven by Lou Hedspeth Rawls and occupied by her daughter, Bobbi Wilson who both tragically died at the scene. Ms. Wilson was the longtime clerk for the Granville County Board of Commissioners.
After colliding with the car in which Ms. Rawls and Ms. Wilson occupied, the tractor-trailer struck a second car which was traveling north on N.C. 96. The tractor-trailer pushed the second vehicle down the road before coming to a final rest on top of it.
The tractor-trailer driver Mr. Green was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and a stop light violation. The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
