Lawsuit Filed in Ferry Grounding Incident

Martin & Jones attorneys Forest Horne and Hunt Willis along with attorneys Don Evans and Seth Buskirk of the Wilmington law firm Clark, Newton & Evans, PA have filed a lawsuit against Bald Head Island for injuries suffered to their client Mary Springmeier in the December 17, 2013 ferry grounding. The lawsuit was filed March 1, 2016.

Ms. Springmeier suffered a traumatic brain injury and damage to her vision, as well as other injuries. She is a resident of Southport and was riding the ferry to Bald Head Island the morning the grounding occurred. The lawsuit alleges that Bald Head Island Transportation violated passenger safety rules in both the training and supervision of employees as well as the operation of its ferries.

Initially, Bald Head Island entities filed a lawsuit against the injured passenger victims in an effort to limit their responsibility. A federal judge issued an order allowing the injured ferry passengers to file claims for both compensatory and punitive damages.

Susan and Forest were outstanding. Very helpful through the whole process and definitely fought to help me greatly. It’s a very overwhelming process and without them I feel certain I would have been left without nearly as much. I absolutely will use the old fashion word of mouth sales pitch for your team. That’s actually how I found Forest. Through a friend who had used them. I will be telling anyone I know who has an accident to absolutely use Forest and Susan. I couldn’t be more satisfied with their treatment of me and my case. They are outstanding.
