911 Caller Reported Dump Truck Driver Prior to Collision

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, tractor-trailer and large truck crashes resulted in nearly 4,000 deaths, and more than 104,000 injuries in the most recent year for which statistics are available, 2012. This shocking number of deaths and injuries, according to some, is due in part to businesses hiring what they contend are “independent contractor” drivers, instead of hiring and training employees as drivers.

Unfortunately, another fatality has occurred in North Carolina. On Tuesday, March 22nd, a dump truck violently collided with the rear of a minivan slamming the van into the back of a tractor-trailer. The minivan was crushed between the two trucks. The driver of the minivan, a 42-year-old English teacher was killed in the crash. Sadly, prior to the collision, a concerned motorist had called 911 operators about a truck that was driving recklessly on the highway. The driver of the truck was driving northbound on Capital Boulevard hauling logs and towing a Bobcat when he rear-ended the minivan.

Three hours before the crash, the truck driver had been reported driving recklessly on I-40 near N.C. Highway 54 in Cary.
