Second Recall Involving Faulty Airbags Announced
A second recall involving faulty airbags was announced on Saturday, January 31, 2015. According to news reports, about half of the more than 2.12 million vehicles in this recall had previously been recalled for a separate defect and repaired with a partial replacement. The partial replacement did not correct the defect in many of the vehicles. The parts for a complete repair may not be available until the end of 2015.
In the announcement, Anthony Foxx, U. S. Transportation Secretary stated, ‘Keeping the traveling public safe is our number one priority, and we expect the manufacturers to get this remedy right to prevent injury to drivers and their families.’
This recent recall involves faulty airbags that can deploy for no reason, and this includes while driving down the highway. The first recall involved faulty airbags that could deploy even in a minor fender bender, and could also expel sharp metal shards into the passenger area of the vehicle. Manufacturers involved include Chrysler, Toyota, and Honda.
